Small independent producers will receive reduced alcohol taxes under a new bill proposed to take effect on July 1.

The proposal was part of the government's budget and covers certain fermented beverages such as wine and mead, spirits, and mid-range products such as sherry and port wine.

Last year, the tax on alcohol was reduced for small beer producers.

"The tax reduction is proposed to be between 50 and 10 percent, depending on the size of the producer. The less produced, the greater the reduction," the government writes in a press release.
