"I am sorry to have to announce that I cannot play for Spain in the Davis Cup in Bologna. I have a swelling in the right back of my thigh and the medical advice is that I should not play," the 22-year-old writes.
"I've always said that the best thing there is is to play for Spain and I was really looking forward to fighting for the Davis Cup. I'm going home devastated."
On Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz lost the final of the ATP playoffs to Italian Jannik Sinner.
Spain will face the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup on Thursday.
