"I'm flattered, proud, happy, and sickly surprised. I've never thought I was part of those conversations", says the Magdeburg star in a press release.
The 32-year-old right-hander from Varberg has been part of the national team for nearly ten years and has, among other things, won the European Championship gold in 2022 and the World Championship silver in 2021. He has also represented Sweden in three Olympic Games, 2016, 2021, and 2024. Additionally, he has won three national championship golds and a German league title in his career.
"He has never been the one taking the most space beside the court, but on it, Albin Lagergren has delivered year after year", says national team coach Michael Apelgren in the press release.
In June, Albin Lagergren and his teammate Felix Claar, who won the award last year, will play the "Final four" with their Magdeburg – in pursuit of the Champions League title.
