Albania Protests Continue for Third Day as Students Demand Government Resignation

Extensive student protests against the government in Albania continued for a third consecutive day on Thursday.

Students have joined forces with several anti-government groups to protest a range of social issues, but a construction project involving Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, has sparked particular anger.

During protests on Thursday evening, stones were thrown at the Ministry of Education. Police responded with tear gas and water cannons.

Previous demonstrations have seen attacks on government buildings, banks and shops.

Student groups are demanding education reforms. The protests have also broadened to include allegations of corruption.

At the same time, protesters are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who leads Albania’s Socialist Party.
