Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is warning of intense fighting in the area, with bombings and continuous shelling. Twelve of the organization's employees and their families are said to be surrounded by the fighting, while more than 30 others were trapped in the MSF office.
"Tanks invaded the area where we live. It was terrifying. We lay on the floor in our homes for hours and it seemed like they were shooting right at us," says one of the employees.
As wounded people arrived at the MSF clinic in al-Mawasi, the facility was forced to close due to the situation.
Reports in several media outlets claim that Israel has bombed several houses in the area. Unverified video clips shared on social media show thick smoke rising near the tent camp, where thousands of Palestinians fleeing the war have taken refuge.
According to the Reuters news agency, Israel claims they have no knowledge of any Israeli advances in al-Mawasi.
