Parts of the Ekonomikum campus at Uppsala University were closed on Thursday after reports of bedbugs.

It is an area of a couple of hundred square meters that will be investigated, according to Upsala Nya Tidning.

"We were contacted by a worried student this morning who claims to have itchy bites that could be from bedbugs. As a precautionary measure, we chose to close this part of the premises," Ann-Kristin Lindberg, chief safety officer at Ekonomikum, told the newspaper.

Filmstaden Luxe in Uppsala has been closed since October after being hit by bedbugs. The cinema is undergoing extensive renovations and is not expected to reopen until January 2026.
