Ulf Kristersson has requested to resign. He is not doing so because the election has been lost, but because it is unclear who has actually won, Åkesson says.
Regardless of what the next government looks like, Åkesson believes it will start from a clean slate, with inflation having fallen, the economy having turned around and major changes having taken place in migration and crime policy.
This is largely due to the Sweden Democrats, he claims.
He says that SD will not give up its demand for ministerial posts if Ulf Kristersson gets a chance to form a government despite the Tidö parties losing the election.
Åkesson sees "nothing hugely dramatic" about the fact that the Sweden Democrats lost by just over 3 percentage points in the election.
They said we would collapse when we got power. We haven't.
According to Åkesson, part of the loss may be due to voters choosing parties outside the Riksdag. But also because they stayed on the couch. An analysis is now pending, to be carried out by the think tank Oikos.
Åkesson also believes that the collapse of the Nyans party has led to S and V gaining more voters in vulnerable areas.
"We can see that the parties that previously attracted Islamist voters have collapsed. It is likely that those voters have gone to the Left Party or the Social Democrats instead, and that this may have had an impact on the election," he says.
