If SD MP Katja Nyberg is indicted, she must resign. This is what party leader Jimmie Åkesson says. If an MP is convicted of a crime, they should not sit in parliament as a Sweden Democrats MP.

Katja Nyberg was stopped for suspected drunk driving in the days after she drove off the road on Värmdö outside Stockholm. Rapid tests indicated suspected drug influence.

Nyberg is a member of the Justice Committee and has been the SD's spokesperson on police issues. She is also a police officer on leave.

When asked whether one can remain in office and represent the SD if one has been charged with drunk driving and drug offenses, Åkesson says:

No, it's pretty much a given and I think that applies to most parties. If you're accused of a crime, maybe you shouldn't sit on the Justice Committee either, but we're not quite there yet; we'll have to wait and see the facts.

Katja Nyberg herself has denied the allegations and said that she was involved in a hunting accident. Prosecutor Anders Jakobsson is still awaiting test results on the contents of a bag Nyberg had with her.

"I have to get everything in before I can move on," he says.

Nyberg has not been charged with a crime.
