Air Travel Disruption Looms as Pilot Strike Threatens Monday

It is still a risk of a larger pilots' strike on Monday with many cancelled departures as a result. We are still very far from each other. But it is positive that talks are ongoing, says Elin Lörnbo at Transport.

The Transport Workers' Union has announced both strike and blockade starting at 4:30 am on Monday. The reason is that the union wants to see improved conditions for cabin crew.

By Friday, no solution was in sight.

At the same time, several talks and meetings are scheduled for the day, according to Elin Lörnbo, who is the press and communications officer.

The Mediation Institute has appointed mediators, but no proposal has been submitted to the parties - Transport and the Swedish Aviation Industry - yet.

The union's notice affects cabin crew at several airlines, including SAS and Norwegian. A total of hundreds of flights risk being cancelled during the coming week.

The Swedish Aviation Industry has responded with a so-called mirror lockout against exactly the same employees and times as the union has taken out in strike.

Passengers who have questions are advised to contact their respective airlines first.

There are many who have also contacted us. But we urge everyone to keep themselves updated and to have contact with their airline, says Elin Lörnbo.

The Transport Workers' Union has announced industrial action starting at 4:30 am on Monday, May 26.

Then, among other things, a blockade against new hiring and overtime will come into force. The blockade applies to all companies within the agreement area Kabinavtalet that are affiliated with the employer organization Swedish Aviation Industry.

At 4:30 am on Monday, a strike will also begin, which concerns the designated cabin chief on board the flights. The notice applies between 4:30 am and 12 pm Monday-Wednesday.

Affected companies: Amapola Flyg, Braathens People, Cityjet, Norwegian Air Sweden, SAS Connect Crew Services Sweden Filial, Scandinavian Airlines System Denmark-Norway-Sweden.

In a later stage, Sunclass Airlines, TUI, Braathens Crew and Jettime will also be part of the notice.
