Mikkjal Thomassen took over AIK on July 16. Since then, the team had, before Saturday, played two matches against Gais, and lost both.
But against bottom-placed Västerås, the losing streak was finally supposed to end.
First, Rui Modesto appeared on the far post and made it 1–0, and just nine minutes later, Dino Besirovic bombed in the extension. Viktor Granath did get a consolation goal, when he scored his first goal since his comeback in VSK, but it wasn't enough.
AIK won 2–1, and finally, the Faroese coach saw his team win.
It means a lot that we get some momentum. That it finally tips over. We must continue to build on that feeling, that things are going our way. It's very important, says Thomassen to Max.
The win means that AIK climbs up to, for the time being, slightly safer ground in the Allsvenskan table. The team is in eighth place after the win, but several teams have the chance to pass later during the round.
At the same time, another crisis-ridden team, IFK Norrköping, also played against Gais.
The "Peking" team also managed to get a long-awaited win. Norrköping won 1–0, and thereby stepped up to safe ground. Isak Sigurgeirsson scored the only goal of the match.
