With a quarter left of the season's first Allsvenskan match at AIK's home arena, Strawberry arena, several objects were thrown in towards one of the assistant referees and the game was temporarily interrupted.
Now, the Swedish Football Association's disciplinary committee chooses to penalize the club for the incident, despite AIK themselves taking action already for the next home match by, among other things, setting up a protective net.
Between May 18 and July 31, AIK must set up a "net or other protection" in front of the stand sections 111 to 115, writes the Swedish Football Association in its decision.
Something that club director Fredrik Söderberg is very critical of.
This is a very strange decision. I had not expected it, he says to Aftonbladet and continues:
We have acted precisely as one should according to the rules of football. Afterwards, we have not had any problems with thrown objects. We have proven that we have gotten to grips with the problem that existed during that match. It was, of course, a serious incident that does not belong on a football stand, but the decision goes against something that we have clearly already got in order.
The period includes four Allsvenskan home matches, and on Sunday, a Stockholm derby against top contender Hammarby awaits.
