Mikkjal Thomassen from the Faroe Islands is close to becoming the new coach for the Allsvenskan table-twelfth AIK.
The parties are negotiating a contract – the same day as the bottom team visits Halmstad.
"It is true that we have ongoing negotiations regarding the potential employment of Mikkjal Thomassen as the new head coach for AIK Football. More than that, I cannot comment on at present", says AIK's sports manager Thomas Berntsen in a statement.
The 48-year-old Thomassen has achieved success in Fredrikstad in the Norwegian elite series during the first half of the season. On Monday, the table fifth published a post on X that the coach is leaving and has accepted another club.
AIK, which has lost five of its six latest Allsvenskan matches, has been without a permanent head coach since the Norwegian Henning Berg resigned in mid-June.
The temporary head coach Henok Goitom led the team in the Allsvenskan restart eight days ago, the 1–2 loss at home against Kalmar FF, and leads the team tonight away against table ninth Halmstad.
