Salétros Secures Draw for AIK as Ekdal Hospitalized in Derby

Djurgården were heading for their first win against AIK in an Allsvenskan derby in almost two years. But several injuries and a red card meant that the unbeaten "Gnaget" came back into the match and Anton Salétros ensured it ended 1–1.

The Swedish national team midfielder scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute. Barely three minutes after Djurgården's Finnish center-back Miro Tenho received his second warning and a red card.

We want to win every match, but when you can't win, then one point is better than nothing. We absolutely want to win this match and I think we have the opportunities to do so, says Anton Salétros to Max.

The rivalry match in front of 26,246 spectators at the 3 arena in Stockholm was drawn out due to several injury breaks – not least in the first half when Djurgården was forced to substitute both Albin Ekdal and Adam Ståhl – and breaks due to fireworks before the second half.

"A typical derby"

According to TV images from Max, the 35-year-old Ekdal was taken to the hospital by ambulance due to a suspected shoulder injury.

It's a typical derby, a lot of breaks. They've played a lot, so they get a lot of injuries in the first half, says Salétros.

Djurgården – who haven't beaten AIK in Allsvenskan since May 28, 2023 – was awarded a penalty in the first half after Sotirios Papagiannopoulos pushed Tobias Gulliksen in his own penalty area in connection with a back-pass to national goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt. Before that, the Norwegian had pushed "Sotte" without a reaction from the referee team led by Glenn Nyberg.

"Apparently something life-threatening"

Apparently, it's supposed to be something life-threatening. I don't know, we'll take it after the match instead, said Papagiannopoulos frustrated to Max.

Marcus Danielson then safely placed the ball with his right foot from 11 meters, to the left of Nordfeldt who went the wrong way.

A small revenge for the veteran center-back who on Thursday was involved in several goals in the highly publicized Conference League semifinal against English top team Chelsea, when Djurgården lost 1–4 on the same artificial turf.

Salétros' equalizer in the end of the match meant that AIK is still unbeaten after seven Allsvenskan rounds. Mjällby, who also haven't lost yet, could pass "Gnaget" on better goal difference at the top of the Allsvenskan after 1–0 at home against IFK Göteborg later on Sunday. Both teams have 17 points.
