"The sporting results have not matched the capacity we believe exists in the team and a change was necessary", says the club's CEO and club director Stefan Gustavson to the club's website.
Instead, the coach profile Roger Melin will take over. The 68-year-old has not been a coach since he left AIK, after also replacing a sacked head coach back then.
"Roger has a unique talent for creating successful hockey teams and we are convinced that he is the right person to lead the team for the rest of the season and beyond", continues Gustavson.
AIK is in ninth place in the table and plays its next match on Tuesday against Östersund – then without Melin.
He will be on the bench for the first time in AIK's home match against Mora on Friday.
