”The inhumane situation in Gaza is indefensible. As humanitarian leaders, we have witnessed with our own eyes the terrible deaths and suffering that the population of Gaza is subjected to. Our warnings have been ignored and thousands of lives are still at stake”, the leaders write in a joint statement.
Among the aid organizations are, among others, Oxfam, Save the Children and Doctors Without Borders.
It was on Tuesday that the investigation, which was conducted on behalf of UNHRC, was presented. It refers, among other things, to aid blockades that have led to starvation and that the majority of Gaza's million population is forced to flee time and time again.
”Governments must act to prevent the destruction of lives in Gaza and to put an end to the violence and occupation", the leaders of the aid organizations state in the statement.
"States must use all available political, economic and legal tools to intervene. Rhetoric and half-hearted measures are not enough."
Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed the report, and calls it incorrect.
No final decision has been made yet in the matter of a possible genocide in Gaza. The International Court of Justice in The Hague, ICJ, has an ongoing case where South Africa accuses Israel of genocide. It is unclear when the case will be decided.
