Four out of 10 Swedes have difficulty determining whether a post with a political message is AI-generated, according to the report Swedes and the Internet: Election Special 2026 from the Internet Foundation.
The report also found that 88 percent of respondents believe that AI will be used to create false images in order to influence the election outcome.
When deciding who to vote for, voter guides and party leader debates are still what matter most, according to respondents.
One in five has also refrained from expressing political views online for fear of hate and threats. That figure is essentially unchanged compared to 2022.
