The sharp increase in production in the communications and IT sector was probably initially a recovery after a few weak years. But since then, most indications are that AI and models are now starting to replace some jobs, according to Almega's quarterly barometer of the state of the services sector.
They can replace junior programmers, the easier parts of the job in software development.
This doesn't necessarily mean they've lost their jobs. But young people with basic IT training may have a tougher time entering the job market.
It's more about the fact that these new jobs that should have been created haven't been created, he says.
His advice to young people considering different types of IT jobs is to broaden their education, perhaps make it more advanced.
If instead you have thought, I want a shorter vocational training and I want to start working quite soon. Then maybe you should avoid this field and aim more for a practical profession, says Patrick Joyce.
