Jonatan Hellvig and David Åhman did not get the beach volleyball game to work in this week's tournament in Brazil. Already in the group stage, it was a loss against the home pair George/Saymon and in Saturday's eighth final, it was a new defeat.
The young Austrian pair Tim Berger, 20, and Timo Hammarberg, 21, took home the first set clearly 21–16. The second became extremely tough and both teams had several chances to take home the set. The Austrians finally took the chance and won the match after a long final set, 32–30.
It's too bad overall in block and defensive play. That's what makes us unable to win the match. The second set we should have taken, but we waste it. It's very disappointing, says Hellvig to SVT.
Nor did the talents Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson advance. Norwegian world pair Anders Mol and Christian Sørum won the eighth final in two straight sets, 21–18, 21–17.
Overall, we play pretty well. The first set up to 18–18 we play well. And if you can keep pace with them, you've still done well, says Jacob Hölting Nilsson.
