Almgren becomes the first non-African runner in 30 years to win gold in a half marathon.

It was a long battle between Almgren and Kipkorir, and towards the end they took turns holding first and second place before Almgren put on a burst of speed and sprinted to the finish.

Andreas Almgren also broke his old record from last year by half a minute.

This is Almgren's third major championship medal of his career. He has previously won a European Championship bronze medal and recently became European champion in the 10,000 metres.

On the women's side, Kenyan Agnes Jebet Ngetich set a new world record.

Ngetich finished in 1:05:15 - one second off the previous record. Ngetich also led the race from start to finish.
