The captain of the Norwegian merchant ship has been in custody since Thursday evening and is now being held on suspicion of manslaughter.
Senior prosecutor James von Reis assesses that there is a risk of flight as the captain does not have a residence in Sweden, the Nordic countries or an EU country.
"The investigation is at an early stage and there is also a risk of undue influence on important witnesses. Therefore, I request his detention," says James von Reis in a press release.
The suspicions of negligence in maritime traffic remain, but are not grounds for arrest.
A child and a woman died when a pleasure boat collided with a Norwegian merchant ship off Tjörn late Tuesday night. Four people, a man, a woman and two young children, were on board. The man and a child were found shortly after the alarm was raised and taken to hospital. On Friday, their condition was described as stable.
The woman and a child were later found dead.
The Coast Guard salvaged the recreational boat from 20–30 metres deep on Saturday morning.
We have assisted the police and prosecutors and helped salvage the boat during the night, says Pontus Ekström, officer on duty at the Coast Guard, to Expressen.
