Bentancur posted a selfie of himself and his partner Melany from the hospital during the night to Thursday. In the picture, the 27-year-old gives a thumbs up and writes:

"Everything is fine! Thanks for all the messages! Congratulations on the win, guys!".

A few hours earlier, the midfielder had left the league cup semifinal against Liverpool on a stretcher. In the match, Bentancur threw himself forward to head a corner kick, but missed the ball and hit his head on the ground.

He lay on the pitch for almost ten minutes and received care before being carried off the pitch and to the hospital.

After the match, Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglu told the AFP news agency that Bentancur was conscious before being taken to the hospital for further examination.

As I understand it, it was a head injury. It was scary and that's always worrying, but from what I know, he'll hopefully be okay, said Postecoglu.

Tottenham won the match, the first semifinal, 1–0.
