"Mia, myself and I - The Last Supper" is Skäringer's most personal show to date. After playing her previous show "No more fucks to give" in large arenas and with over 300,000 tickets sold, she wants to start on a smaller scale this time. The new show premieres at the Chinateatern in Stockholm.
"It actually holds 1,500 people, so it's not a very small room in that sense. But I want to start off gently with my audience," she says.
"Chronic state of crisis"
The new performance is a comic monologue about existential angst, the longing to be in the present, and the eternal struggle between what we show outwardly – and what we struggle with inside. For Skäringer, living in “a chronic state of crisis” - and that's what she wants to tell us.
"I'm turning 50 this fall, so this will be a kind of reconciliation with myself. It's about being human. It will be the most transparent and honest performance I've ever done, where I let the audience closer to me than ever before," she says.
The conversation with the audience is important for her to maintain. Even at the big arena shows, an intimacy arose that she was not prepared for and which she is keen to maintain:
"It felt like we became one big collective. I've never wanted to stand on the barricades, but in these performances, the audience and I became one. It was an indescribable sisterhood and a love that I will always carry with me."
Gut feeling
She describes the new performance as “funny and sad and serious and crazy.” And her greatest hope is that she will succeed in reflecting on what life is, how to manage to be more in the present.
"It sounds both banal and cliché, but we are moving further and further away from our gut feeling. Our time is about absolutely not giving in to it. If we do, we become uncomfortable or ruin the atmosphere. I struggle with that and I think others do too," she says.
However, Skäringer dares to promise one difference from previous performances: Extra everything.
"It's going to be a full-on blast, this time I won't hold back."
