After the triumphs in Rome and New York, both times with Ludvig Åberg on the team, Luke Donald will next year have the chance to become the first Ryder Cup captain to win three consecutive editions of the classic golf battle between Europe and the USA.
It is not yet clear who will lead the US team, but Tiger Woods is said to be the first choice if he feels he has the time.
Next year's Ryder Cup will be held at Adare Manor in Ireland. Europe has not lost on home soil since 1993.
