The formal decision on whether boxing will also be included in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028 will be made later during the IOC congress in Pylos, Greece, this week.
The future of boxing in the Olympic Games has been a saga for several years. During the Paris Olympic Games last year, the IOC arranged the qualifying and main competitions after completely severing ties with the International Boxing Federation (IBA), which has been plagued by, among other things, corruption scandals.
Recently, the IOC gave preliminary approval to the newly started federation World Boxing, which may thus be allowed to arrange qualifying competitions in the future.
Boxing was included in the Olympic program in 1904 and has since then been included in all summer games except for the Olympic Games in Stockholm 1912.
