It is the imprisoned Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi's foundation that writes in a statement on X about the chaos prevailing in the prison, where staff have locked the wards and left.
Access to food and basic necessities has been restricted, and in several wards food distribution has ceased, with only limited bread rations remaining, according to the organization HRS.
One of the prisoners is the Swedish-Iranian researcher Ahmadreza Djalali, who was sentenced to death in 2017 on charges of espionage.
"I am very worried. We have not spoken since Thursday. Then he was not feeling well and said he was tired. Since then I have not received any information about what happened," his wife Vida Mehrannia tells Svenska Dagbladet.
