Skipper Niklas Edin has led Sweden to seven World Cup gold medals, but when the team was supposed to defend its Olympic gold medal in Cortina in February, it finished a disastrous ninth out of ten teams.

When the World Cup kicked off in Ogden, Utah, on Friday night, local time in Sweden, it was a dramatic victory for Sweden over Scotland. The Scots delivered their last stone in the final end too late, so the stone was disallowed and Sweden won 6–5.

In the second match against Italy on Saturday, Sweden won comfortably 9–4 after scoring four points in the ninth end, which led Italy to concede.
