The polio vaccination of children in Gaza will resume tomorrow Saturday, according to the World Health Organization's Secretary-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Earlier in October, WHO announced that the vaccination had been forced to pause due to intense bombardment in the area.

"Unfortunately, the area covered is significantly smaller than during the first vaccination round, leaving some children unprotected and at higher risk of infection", Tedros writes now on X.

The vaccination campaign began on September 1, after war-torn Gaza confirmed its first case of polio in 25 years. The viral disease is highly contagious and can in the worst case lead to paralysis and death.
