Denmark's Queen Mary turns 53 on Wednesday, and the day after, Prince Joachim's wife, Princess Marie, turns 49.
This means general flag days in Denmark – but they have now been cancelled.
"In light of the tragic event in Örebro, Sweden, today, it has been decided, out of respect for the victims, in consultation with the royal house, that there will be no flagging", writes the Danish Ministry of Justice on its website.
King Frederik X sent his condolences to Sweden on Tuesday.
"Deeply shocked and moved by the brutal shooting at a school in Örebro today, I send my warmest thoughts and deepest condolences to you and the entire Swedish people", writes Frederik in a letter addressed to King Carl XVI Gustaf.
