A mother was murdered and two teenage daughters were injured in what the police are now describing as an "act of madness" in Boden on Christmas Day. One of the daughters was trapped with the murderer, a man in his 20s, in the home for several hours. "We have a fairly clear picture of what happened, but we don't know why," Detective Inspector P-O Andersson told TT.

The man rang the doorbell and was let into the villa in Boden at around 8:30 a.m. A 55-year-old woman and her teenage daughter were at home.

The woman was subsequently subjected to "extensive violence," according to police. Her teenage daughter was also attacked and prevented from leaving the home.

Shortly after 12 noon, the woman's other teenage daughter came home and was also subjected to severe violence.

The police were alerted from inside the home and arrived at the address shortly after 12 noon. In connection with this, the perpetrator was shot dead by the police.

“Know quite well”

The 55-year-old woman died from her injuries and the two daughters were taken to hospital, where one of them continues to be treated for serious injuries.

PO Andersson at Luleå Police confirms that one of the daughters was "restricted in her freedom" with the perpetrator for several hours.

"We know quite well what happened during these hours, since we were able to question her. She is significantly less physically injured. However, we have not been able to hear the other daughter who was attacked and subjected to severe violence," he says.

He does not want to comment on when the mother died, what type of weapon the perpetrator used, or what prompted the police to shoot.

According to police, there is no known connection between the suspect and the victims. The motive remains unclear.

"A lot right now revolves around the deceased perpetrator, to be able to get a picture of him and what could have led to this. We are looking at his social media, his phone, anything that can provide an explanation for both us and the relatives," says PO Andersson.

Nothing can change what happened, but it can at least provide answers.

Was forcibly hospitalized

Everything indicates that the man acted alone, according to the police.

Currently, the picture is that it was some kind of act of madness.

According to media reports, the suspected perpetrator has had recurring contact with psychiatry.

Just days before the murder, the man was forcibly admitted to a psychiatric hospital but was released after a day, according to the man's mother, who spoke to NSD.

PO Andersson confirms that part is being investigated.

We have a picture of things and are looking at it.
