Home star Federica Brignone will start at the Milano-Cortina Olympics after suffering a horrific double leg fracture in April last year.

The 35-year-old Federica Brignone, world champion in giant slalom, is one of eleven women's alpine skiers in Italy's squad.

Brignone made a comeback in the World Cup last week, taking an impressive sixth place in the giant slalom competition in Kronplatz in Italy.

Before her comeback, she said she was unsure whether she would be able to compete at the Olympics because she still felt pain.

Federica Brignone plans to compete in giant slalom, downhill and super-G in Cortina d'Ampezzo, where the women's alpine competitions are being held.

Brignone has two Olympic medals in giant slalom - but is missing a gold after taking silver behind Sara Hector in Beijing 2022. Four years earlier she won bronze.
