Johnny Gaudreau was killed along with his brother Matthew in a traffic accident in New Jersey on August 29. Johnny Gaudreau played nine of his eleven seasons in the NHL with Calgary and was hailed by players and the audience before the match against Philadelphia on Sunday morning Swedish time.

His jersey number was exposed on the media cube and a video clip with highlights from his career was played for the audience, who chanted his name.

Several of the guys on the team knew him well, so this will be an opportunity to honor him. But the best way to do that is to go out there and make a good game for his sake, said Calgary defenseman MacKenzie Weegar before the match to nhl.com.

The match itself was won by Calgary with 6-3. Swedish forward Mikael Backlund scored one of the team's goals.
