The country's highest court has ruled that the tariffs were illegal and that the money must be paid back.
But the Department of Justice has announced that it intends to appeal the decision that entitles importers to the money.
Since May 12, companies have started receiving refunds for customs duties they paid. In total, applications for payments equivalent to over SEK 780 billion have been received. This corresponds to approximately half of the duties paid.
The announcement of the appeal came as a judge in the US Court of International Trade initiated proceedings to potentially expedite payments to 330,000 companies.
