This year's Formula 1 cars have both combustion engines and electric power, meaning that drivers slowed down during qualifying laps to save battery power. At the same time, the cars are equipped with a boost button to enable overtaking.
Four-time world champion Max Verstappen has called the new cars "a joke."
On Monday, team bosses decided to make changes for the next race, in Miami, on May 3, to allow cars to run at higher speeds for longer periods during qualifying. In addition, the boost button will be limited to 150 kW to reduce performance differences, a safety measure taken after British driver Ollie Bearman crashed in Japan.
