Night train service between Luleå and Stockholm was due to run as usual from Sunday evening, but it will not. The extreme cold is returning to the north, and therefore the trains cannot run, reports P4 Norrbotten, citing SJ.

Trains were cancelled on Friday and Saturday due to cold weather, which also caused problems during the first week of the year. Train service remains cancelled between Luleå and Narvik and there is no forecast for when it will resume.

For safety reasons, no replacement service will be operated.

"If it's too cold to drive a train, you don't want to drive a bus there either. There are places that are quite far from everything if something were to happen," SJ's press communicator Johannes Cleris tells TT.

Norrtåg has also cancelled its departures between Luleå and Kiruna, reports P4 Norrbotten.
