The football club IFK Norrköping, which was eliminated from the Allsvenskan on Saturday after a qualifying loss against Örgryte, strongly condemns the throwing of bangers and pyrotechnics in connection with the match.

In a post on its website, the club writes that "this behavior from certain individuals is completely unacceptable."

The club also writes that it will now cooperate with authorities and other parties to "identify the individuals and take action."

In the first half, the qualifying return on Saturday was interrupted twice due to incidents in the stands and a case of illness in the audience delayed the start of the second half.

Started burning

With five minutes left in the match, some people in the home crowd threw in lots of pyrotechnics. The artificial turf field caught fire in several places.

A long interruption of play followed while match officials and police discussed whether the match should be resumed or abandoned.

Once it started again, another projectile was thrown in and the match was broken up again – now for the fourth time.

IFK Norrköping's standing room stand Curva Nordahl needed to be completely emptied before the match could resume and then only end more than four hours after it was started.

Understandable frustration

Even immediately after the match, Norrköping club director André Skagervik said that the chaos in the stands was unacceptable, NT reported.

Of course, it is completely understandable that there is frustration among our supporters, but the way it is being done today, where a few individuals are endangering the safety of staff, officials and players, is completely unacceptable.

According to the police in the Eastern Region, no one was arrested in connection with the match. Three people were temporarily taken into custody, including for intoxication, but are not suspected of a crime. Eleven were removed to another location.

Three people are suspected of crimes, one of which is for violating the mask ban.
