The family has not yet been informed of the cause of death. The biathlete was found dead in his hotel room in northern Italy on the day before Christmas Eve, while on a training camp with several other Norwegian skiers. He was wearing a high-altitude mask when he was found, but it is unclear whether the mask had anything to do with his death.
Italian authorities are still working to determine the cause of death and are awaiting the results of the police's technical examination of the high-altitude equipment and the forensic examination, lawyer Bernt Heiberg says, according to several Norwegian media outlets, and continues:
It is not unusual for such cases to take time, but we hope that the relatives will soon receive some answers.
