After Paramedic’s Murder, Investigator Rejects Flags Warning Ambulance Crews About Addresses

The government’s investigator proposes making it easier for the police, emergency services and ambulance services to share information. However, he opposes so-called “flagging” of addresses.

This spring, the government appointed an inquiry into the stabbing murder of a female ambulance paramedic in Harmånger, north of Hudiksvall, last autumn.

A 25-year-old man, who was later sentenced to 18 years in prison for the murder, had threatened another ambulance paramedic just a few days earlier.

Investigator Stefan Jansson is now proposing, among other things, that patient records should include information about how a patient has previously treated healthcare staff.

However, he rejects so-called "flagging" - a system to warn ambulance staff before they go to an address where threats or violence have occurred in the past.

“It is a system that we will not advocate, for reasons of efficiency and legal certainty,” he says at a press conference.
