Italian alpine star Federica Brignone, 35, has chosen to end the season after the double Olympic gold.
"I have asked a lot of my body in recent months. I have tried to finish the season, but my body has had to pay a high price," Brignone said.
Brignone won - against all odds - double gold in super-G and giant slalom at her home Olympics in February.
As recently as April last year, she severely injured her left leg in a crash and underwent two surgeries. She made a comeback two weeks before the Olympics.
The decision to cancel the season means that Brignone will miss the World Cup competitions in Åre on March 14-15, among other things.
