A father sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his two children is being transferred to a women's institution after changing his legal gender. The case is causing a row in the Tidö parties, with harsh online exchanges between KD leader Ebba Busch and M politician Hanif Bali, among others.

The Christian Democrats also request that the Director General of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service come to the Social Affairs Committee in the Riksdag to provide an overview of how the new law on gender identity is applied and affects regulations for the institutions.

– Since we now have an example of a person who was sentenced to life imprisonment and changed legal gender while in prison, it is relevant, says Christian Carlsson, Christian Democratic chairman of the Social Affairs Committee.

Tearing up

However, Carlsson and KD already have a clear opinion about what should happen with the law:

We believe that the new legislation should be dismantled.

KD and SD voted against the new law when the Riksdag passed it in April 2024. It was hammered through by M, L, S, V, MP and C and came into force this summer.

Former M MP Hanif Bali believes, in a post on X, that KD was involved in making the law a reality because it was developed at the KD-led Ministry of Social Affairs.

It is not only his own party leader and others who voted yes who are, to varying degrees, guilty, as he calls it.

"Nonsense," writes KD leader Ebba Busch in a comment. She claims that the law would not have been passed unless M and L had pushed for it and thinks that Bali should refrain from sniping, even within his own party.

Out of your mind?

She writes, also on X, that the high-profile case is a result of the parliamentary majority pushing through the law towards better knowledge and research.

"Where the new gender legislation went in - some of the common sense went out," Busch claims.

SD leader Jimmie Åkesson writes, according to Expressen, that it is gratifying that KD stopped wavering on the issue and voted with SD. But he seems to want to refrain from criticizing M and L openly and harshly.
