This weekend's news that Danish Novo Nordisk is losing the bidding war for the pharmaceutical company Metsera is causing the stock to rise.

In the initial trading on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange, Novo Nordisk is one of the winners with a price increase of around 3 percent.

However, the upturn should be put into perspective that the share price has halved since the turn of the year when the company suffered a series of setbacks and was forced to make cutbacks.

This morning's price increase comes after the announcement that Novo Nordisk is giving up the fight against the American Pfizer for the pharmaceutical company Metsera.

Both pharmaceutical giants have been interested in Metsera based on the weight loss preparation it produces.

Novo Nordisk was for a long time the world leader in obesity medications but has faced strong competition not only from Pfizer but especially Eli Lilly. The Danish company has changed its CEO this year and announced significant staff cuts.
