It's a cliché that mistakes are expensive in Europe, but for Djurgården, it was a truth away against Austrian Lask Linz in the Conference League premiere.
After 49 minutes, the Stockholm team was down 0-2 after two gifts.
At 0-1 down in the 26th minute, there was a miscommunication between goalkeeper Oscar Jansson and defender Adam Ståhl, which allowed Valon Berisha to score the lead goal. This was in an essentially open goal after Jansson tried to salvage the situation.
Four minutes into the second half, Jansson made a headless clearance, Florian Flecker ran past, and could score 2-0 from a narrow angle.
Curtains for Djurgården? Not at all.
Dane August Priske was recruited last summer and now scored his first goal in a Djurgården jersey when the 20-year-old tapped in the reduction from close range in the 57th minute.
Eight minutes later, it was equalized when substitute Tokmac Nguen – after five minutes on the pitch – shot from distance.
Both teams then had opportunities to decide, but 2-2 stood until the end of the match.
In the next round of the Conference League, Portuguese Vitória Guimarães await Djurgården at home at Tele2 Arena on October 24.
