The day after Hillary Clinton answered questions before the House Oversight Committee, it's time for her husband, former President Bill Clinton, to be grilled.
"I know what I did, and more importantly, what I didn't do. I saw nothing and I did nothing wrong," Bill Clinton said in his opening remarks, according to the BBC.
He said that if he had had the slightest knowledge of Epstein's sexual crimes, "I would have reported him myself."
All evening
The testimony will be held behind closed doors, but, like Hillary Clinton's hearing, parts are believed to be leaked during the evening. The former president has distributed his opening statement in writing to journalists.
Hillary Clinton's questioning lasted for many hours. Her husband is expected to answer questions throughout Friday and is not expected to finish until around midnight local time in Sweden.
According to NBC News, this is the first time since 1983 that a former president has been questioned by a congressional committee. At that time, Gerald Ford had to answer questions about planning for the upcoming 200th anniversary of the US Constitution.
Not criminally charged
The Republican-led House Oversight Committee has long sought to question the Clintons about their dealings with Epstein, even accusing them of contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a subpoena.
Neither Hillary nor Bill Clinton has been charged with any crime.
After her testimony, Hillary Clinton said at a press conference that she was certain her husband did not know about Epstein's crimes and that she has 'no memory' of ever meeting Jeffrey Epstein.
