TV4 is discontinuing its popular current affairs program "Efter fem" on Sundays with immediate effect. A strategic decision, says program director Viveka Hansson to TT.

The staff has been informed that the last Sunday broadcast will take place already this Sunday, December 22, which Aftonbladet was the first to report.

According to Viveka Hansson, program director at TV4, the decision is "strategic".

We want to focus our resources where they do the most good. It's expensive to produce programs on Sundays, we get more out of it on weekdays, she says.

According to Hanson, the Sunday broadcast does not lose viewers linearly, but they have had a hard time reaching the streaming audience on Sundays when the competition for the viewers' time is tough.

Sunday's "Efter fem" is not very strong digitally, even though it's a fine program, she says.

"Efter fem" has been broadcast every weekday since 2019. Last January, the program also started being broadcast on Sundays.

TV4 does not expect to lay off staff due to the schedule change, since the upcoming investment in "Nyhetsdagen" – a live news program all day on weekdays – will require an increased staff force.

What will replace "Efter fem" in the weekend schedule going forward is not known.
