Celebrations got out of hand – buses set on fire

Los Angeles celebrated the Dodgers' final victory in baseball's World Championship. Some did so in a destructive way – or maybe some just took the opportunity to live it up. Buses were set on fire and stores were looted.

Early on Tuesday morning, a dozen people were arrested by the police, suspected of various crimes in connection with people taking to the streets to celebrate the Dodgers' victory over the New York Yankees.

Images showed how perpetrators threw objects at police officers trying to disperse groups that were engaging in activities other than joyful expressions.

"There were unruly and sometimes violent and hostile celebrations," says police spokesperson Drake Madison in an email to the AP news agency.

Several attempts to take over the streets occurred in central Los Angeles, according to the police, who responded by opening fire with less lethal ammunition.

The Dodgers plan to celebrate their World Championship title with a parade in central Los Angeles on Friday. The celebration will then continue at Dodger Stadium.

Supporters will not be able to attend both events.
