More than a hundred people died when a gold mine collapsed in the Central African Republic, near the border with Cameroon, earlier this week.

The country's government has now decided to close the mine, AP reports. The mine was in fact closed before the accident, but illegal mining was still going on.

According to early reports, the accident is believed to have been triggered by the collapse of mining tunnels, which caused a landslide.
