Kosovo is to move from “potential candidate country” to official candidate country for the EU. Albin Kurti promised that this would be the priority of the new government just before his new government was approved by parliament.
The prime minister was then able to celebrate that Kosovo has a government after 18 months of political chaos.
The country was plunged into crisis in February 2025 when parliamentary elections led to a political deadlock. A new election in December last year failed to resolve the issue, and the country's population had to vote a third time in June this year.
Since then, negotiations had been dragging on, only to be resolved now, when 62 of the 120 members of parliament voted in favor of a coalition government led by Kurti's party, Vetevendosje.
