It took 152 years for Cherie DeVaux to make history as the first female trainer to win the Kentucky Derby. In front of over 100,000 spectators, her horse Golden Tempo surprisingly won this year's edition of the race.
"It's an honor to be the person that other women and girls can look up to. You can dream big and be part of history," said Cherie DeVaux.
Golden Tempo was hardly a favorite to win, the victory paying out 23 times the stake, but the horse managed to find a position in the field and win ahead of pre-race favorite Renegade.
