Australia's top Olympic Games medalist, swimmer Emma McKeon, is retiring.
The 30-year-old has six gold, three silver, and five bronze medals from the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, and Paris.
In Tokyo 2021, she made history as the first female swimmer to win seven medals in a single Olympic Games.
McKeon was a major rival to Sarah Sjöström and the other Swedish women in the freestyle distances of 50, 100, and 200 meters.
I knew when I went to Paris that it would be my last Olympic Games, and over the past few months, I've taken my time to reflect on my journey and think about what I want for my future in swimming, she writes on Instagram.
Sarah Sjöström is one of many competitors who has commented on McKeon's post:
"Congratulations and thanks for everything", writes Sjöström, adding a heart.
