The tournament was supposed to be played in Morocco between March 17 and April 3, but on Thursday the Confederation of African Football announced that the championship would be moved to this summer and would instead be held from July 25 to August 16.
Where it will be held is unclear. Reports have suggested that Morocco no longer wants to host the championship and that South Africa has offered to take over the event.
The Confederation of African Football surprisingly announced in November that the number of teams in the championship would be expanded to 16.
The previous edition of the African Championships was also postponed from 2024 to 2025.
Nigeria is the reigning champion of the championships, which also serve as qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
