Among the victims are several children, according to Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.
“We strongly condemn this cowardly attack,” he writes on X.
Pakistan, through Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, said on Sunday that security forces had carried out attacks along the border with Afghanistan, killing about 30 Afghan militiamen. The attacks were said to have been in response to “terrorist attacks on innocents” in Pakistan.
Pakistan has repeatedly launched attacks on targets in Afghanistan as a result of the conflict that has flared up between the neighboring countries. The government in Islamabad has accused the Taliban regime in Kabul of supporting and harboring Pakistani militant groups.
